Mobile compatible sitesA recent phenomenon More and more phones are coming equipped with internet access and I believe that this will soon be the norm. It is therefore important to ensure that sites can be viewed on such devices. What does this mean to you? Having a professional looking site sets you apart from your competition and can make the difference between getting that next pupil or losing them to a competitor. Many sites use 'Flash' animation to create that extra impact however, the software required to play these animations is not available on these devices and a solution does not appear to be on the horizon. Although the percentage of visitors viewing sites on mobile devices is currently relatively small, it makes sense to cater for them but without losing the impact your site has for visitors using larger devices. All sites now come with coding that will detect if a site is being viewed on a mobile device and automatically shows content in a format that can be viewed on these devices and I feel this is essential to ensure my customers sites are one step ahead of the competition. So what's the difference? The biggest difference is to the flash enabled sites as mobiles cannot display these at all. Here, the same colour schemes, logos etc. will be used but the content will be in a static format that the user can then read through as normal so my Flash sites now come as effectively 2 sites in one. In addition to this, there are some nice touches such as the phone numbers being made into links that allow the user to click them so they get a prompt to ask if they want to call. There is also a link created on the contact page that will open up their text message editor so they can send an instant text, Below is an example of the alternative views of a sites home page. Obviously you can't see the animation of the car bouncing in on the computer view from this but you get the idea! ![]() |
